Expectations of energy-intensive companies towards Poland’s economic policy, energy sector and Polish science in 2024.
Together with representatives of the Ministry of Development and Technology, the Ministries of Climate and Environment, AGH University of Krakow and the largest industrial companies (including Zakłady Górniczo-Hutnicze “Bolesław” in Bukowno, Boryszew S.A. and CMC Poland), we discussed the key expectations of the energy-intensive sector in 2024 r.
Here are the most important conclusions from the talks between representatives and industry that took place in Krakow:
1. A mechanism was proposed to stabilize electricity prices at the level of EUR 60/MWh, which could be used by energy-intensive industrial plants that declare to maintain production activities in their current locations at least until December 31, 2029.
2. The key proposal is to introduce solutions for Green Industrial Districts that support self-production from renewable energy sources and the storage of green energy. In particular, the introduction of new location rules for the construction of wind farms and system services for energy storage will enable the implementation of multi-billion investment projects in the period 2024-2027;
3. Manufacturing companies become not only energy consumers, but also producers. Renewable energy investments implemented in own areas will relieve the transmission and distribution system and reduce energy prices for end users. The industry is taking many of its own initiatives. One of the newest investments in Poland is #Repono. Industrial Group Boryszew S.A. together with InnoEnergy, Leclerc, Schneider Electric, Stena Metal, they are investing in a European operator of system storages that will store green energy and sell it under cPPA / PPA contracts
4. Adoption of a new compensation program for industry this year as part of “Assistance for energy-intensive sectors related to sudden increases in gas and energy prices in 2024”;
